Doing it this way, I can continue to update it as things occur to us. We have already said that we prefer gift certificates for Home Depot and Sears. However, I am informed that that isn't a good enough list.
Some of the stuff on Dan's list is there, not because he has asked for it, but because I think he needs it.

- Educational/Science/Imagination toys (This is more a guideline then anything, get them toys that they can use thier imaginations with like dress up cloths, or that teach problem solving skills for ages 3+, there are tons of quality toys out there that incourage thinking and learning and playing actively)

- Train table (sans big train track, we already have one for him)
- Playmat (a carpet with roads and fields printed on it)
- "Brio compatible" wooden train stuff
