Recent events in the virtual world of Eve have been making headlines in RL lately.
A player claiming to be an in-game bank managed to convince hundreds of other players to invest thier virtual cash in his company...to the estimated tune of 890 billion isk.
Then he emptied the account and logged off, leaving a confession on the forums and a nasty video laughing at his victims.
Yeah, yeah, it's just a game right? Well yeah it is, and the ability to pull these kinds of stunts (not the nasty bits) are what makes it so much fun.
890 billion isk represents many many hours, much blood sweat and tears and the seriousness that the investors placed in this game.
1 billion isk goes for $15 USD on eBay. So that scam would have made the scammer approx. $13,500 of REAL money. ($16,500 was the number quoted in PCGamer)
The whole thing is being washed away by forum rants atm, but it leaves a very important question about the legality of virtual property.
Here's what an article from the Yale University Law Department has to say about it.

Walk the Line

Dan, Bid and I sat down last night and watched "Walk the Line", the Johnny Cash story. It was a well spent 3 hours. Besides the part where I don't think I've ever seen Joquin Phoenix or Reese Weatherspoon ever act so well as they did in this movie, the story itself was enlightening and well orchestrated.
Johnny Cash was always one of those names that I associated with my parents or grandparents music (or worse, country music). As such, I don't believe I've ever actually listened to his stuff, at least not consciously, until his "Hurt" cover. (sry about the quality)
I have to applaude a man who can live his life as he did and turn it into something positive. He embraced his dark side at an early age and never let it go, but used it to help other people see.
As someone who fights her dark side all the time... (What? You didn't notice that? How long have you been reading this blog for anyways?)...I have a deep respect for his artistic temprament and achievements.
A belated tear for Johnny Cash and June Carter. The world would have been a different place without you.
